“Las Fiestas del PCE” have been a great success with as many as 35 000 people attending.
More than just on national issues, members of the EL Executive Board contributed to bring an international, European focus through conferences and debates such as :
/span> /span> /span> “After the referendum in France, what to do?” with Christine Mendelsohn ( PCF), Willy Meyer (IU), and Helmut Makhov (PDS). Christine Mendelsohn brought an interesting input on the activities undertaken by the PCF during the massive campaign on the ‘NO’ to this Constitutional Treaty in France all over the country, and the fruitful collaboration which was established with the social movements. This experience showed that popular and citizen unity can lead to majorities against neo-liberalism. The follow up of the referendum has been conducted actively: at the Paris European Conference of 24 and 25 June 2005, where all the voluntary association, Trade Union and political networks in Europe put forward proposals concerning resistance to neoliberalism all across Europe. This process will continue through the preparation of the European Social Forum taking place in Athens in april 2006. Helmut Markov from the PDS gave a broad approach of the complex political situation in Germany, emphasizing on the crucial role that has to be taken by the Left – Die Linke.PDS- at a time in which the failures of the social-democracy call for a true rejection of neoliberal policies/span> /span>
