Belgian workers say no to austerity this monday, December 15th. After the demonstration of November 6, which gathered more than 120,000 people in Brussels and the success of the three rotating strikes by Province, the national general strike called by the common unions' front is an undeniable success.
The Belgians refuse the government's agreement by an all-right coalition, led by the Francophone Liberal Charles Michel and the Flemish nationalist leader Bart De Wever, who decided to follow the austerity policies imposed by the European Union with zeal whose social nuisance to people is no longer in doubt.
This agreement imposes austerity in all social, cultural, societal and economic sectors of Belgium, without considering any tax reform that would provide the means for a fairer policy. The measures are a disproportionate aggression against the purchasing power of workers, unemployed, and pensioners.
Given the government’s stubbornness, the determination of workers does not bend; and the movement, which sounded throughout Europe, will not remain without future.
The Party of the European Left expresses its full solidarity with the Belgian workers and their unions. Maite Mola, EL-Vice President, was this morning at the picket line of the city center of Brussels.
